DMACC Volleyball Returns to Winning Ways

After being handed their first loss of the season last Wednesday by #19 Hawkeye Community College, the #5 Bears volleyball team refocused and dominated both of their opponents 3-0 during last Friday’s Yellow Jacket Volleyball Invite in Rochester, Minnesota.

The first victory came against Madison, Wis. College in their second meeting against DMACC this season. Since their last match against DMACC the Wolfpack accumulated a 5-1 record but is now unranked and fell to the Bears in straight sets, starting with a dominating 25-8 performance by DMACC.

Box score statistics are only available for the first two sets; DMACC had nine kills on 25 total attempts with only six errors. Freshman Amber Dilsaver had DMACC’s only two blocks and freshman Daiton Martin hustled for a team-high five digs.

Through two sets, sophomore Peyton Parker led the Bears with three kills on six total attempts, sophomore Kenzie Justice had two aces for the Bears, while the team had no serving errors.

The hosting Rochester, Minn. Yellow Jackets fell victim to the surging Bears next, also by the score of 3-0. Sophomores Parker and Madison Paulson anchored the front line again in the second game with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Sophomore Gill Tupper and freshman Cailey Schaa set up their teammates with 19 and 16 assists each. Sophomore Lacey Clark served DMACC’s only two aces, while Martin dived for a team high 12 digs in the victory.

DMACC’s next volleyball game is Wednesday in Norfolk, Nebraska against Northeast Community College. Although sporting a record of 7-3 compared to the Bears 8-1, the Northeast Hawks are ahead of the Bears in the conference standings due to an undefeated in-conference record. DMACC is 1-1 in conference play compared to the Hawks 2-0.

The Bears have two other away contests after Northeast before their next home game, returning to Boone to face the NIACC Trojans on the Sept. 19th at 6:30 p.m.
