DMACC volleyball stays undefeated

In a 3-1 victory over the rival Kirkwood Eagles on Wednesday night, the DMACC Bears volleyball team rose to 6-0 for the season, and 1-0 in Iowa Community College Athletics Conference standings.

Madison Paulsen and Lacey Clark rise for the block

Although the Eagles came to Boone on a three-game win streak and split the first two sets with DMACC, the Bears went on to win the third and fourth by scores of 25-21.

The Bears front line outplayed the Eagles’ in the final two sets. Sophomore Peyton Parker, from La Porte City, led DMACC with nine kills, freshman Amber Dilsaver, from Fort Madison, and sophomore Madison Paulsen, from Council Bluffs, chipped in eight kills apiece.

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada helped her teammates with twenty assists and Freshman Daiton Martin, from Essex, led the Bears with five ace serves and twenty digs.

The Bears are only one of two teams left undefeated alongside Iowa Central in the ICCAC volleyball standings.

Martin said while it feels good to stay undefeated, she doesn’t think about the team’s perfect record during games.

“I try to just stay [focused] in each game, because I know when you’re undefeated it can bring a lot of pressure so we try to take it just game by game,” Martin said.

The Bears next game is Wednesday, Sept. 5 against Hawkeye Community College (5-1,1-0) in Waterloo at 7 p.m.

The first rankings of the regular season will not be out until Sept. 5, but the Bears have already defeated #20 Muskegon and #8 Madison community colleges that are ranked in the NJCAA preseason volleyball Division II and III lists, respectively.

When asked if she expects the team to be ranked next week, Martin said that’s not on the team’s mind this early in the season.
